India batter Shreyas Iyer has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in Sydney after sustaining an injury while fielding during the third One-Day International (ODI) against Australia. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday, October 27, confirmed that the cricketer is medically stable and under treatment.
In an official statement, the BCCI said Iyer suffered a blow to his left lower rib-cage region while attempting a diving catch. He was taken to a local hospital, where medical scans revealed a laceration of the spleen.
The board added that the Indian team doctor has remained in Sydney to monitor Iyer’s condition, while medical specialists in both Sydney and India are involved in managing his recovery.
Although early assessments indicated a three-week recovery period, the presence of internal bleeding has made the timeline for his return uncertain, officials said.
The BCCI stated that Iyer is stable and continues to receive medical care in Sydney. Further updates on his condition will be issued in due course.
