Delhi Police have arrested a 59-year-old man on charges of espionage and passport forgery. The accused, identified as Mohammad Adil Hussaini, also known by several aliases including Syed Adil Hussain and Nasimuddin, is suspected of maintaining links with foreign nuclear scientists and travelling frequently abroad, including to Pakistan.
According to the police, Hussaini was allegedly involved in passing sensitive information to foreign entities. Officials said his activities are under investigation and further details are being verified.
During the raid, officers recovered one original Indian passport and two forged passports from Hussaini’s possession. Investigators also found three fake identity cards purportedly issued by a sensitive government installation. Preliminary inquiries revealed that the documents were allegedly produced through a network operating out of Jamshedpur, Jharkhand.
Police sources claimed that during questioning, Hussaini confessed to obtaining nuclear-related designs from a Russian scientist and later selling them to an Iranian contact. The proceeds, they said, were used to purchase property in Dubai and fund a lavish lifestyle.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Pramod Singh Kushwah said Hussaini and his brother, Akhtar Hussaini, are suspected of supplying classified information and arranging forged passports. “The racket appears to have been active for several years,” he added.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Police have detained Akhtar Hussaini for his alleged role in the operation. Another individual who ran a café has also been arrested, while others linked to the network are reportedly absconding.
Hussaini was produced before a Delhi court and remanded in police custody for seven days. He faces charges under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to criminal conspiracy, cheating, and forgery.
