India cricketer and Delhi Capitals captain KL Rahul has opened up about the inspiration behind his viral ‘Kantara’ celebration during the IPL 2025 match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Rahul played a match-winning knock of 93 off 53 balls* to lead Delhi Capitals to victory at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Following the win, he celebrated by thumping his chest, pointing to the ground, and shouting — a gesture reminiscent of a powerful scene from the popular Kannada film Kantara.
Speaking about the celebration, Rahul said it was a symbolic message of pride and belonging. “It was from one of my favourite movies, Kantara. I just wanted to make a statement — this ground, this city, this place where I grew up – it’s mine,” he explained.
The 32-year-old, who hails from Karnataka and began his cricketing journey in Bengaluru, said the moment was emotional given his connection with the venue. The celebration quickly went viral on social media, with fans hailing it as a tribute to his roots.
