India’s ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer has shared an encouraging update on his recovery following a rib injury sustained during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney. The 29-year-old batter, who was briefly admitted to the ICU after the incident, took to social media to express gratitude for the outpouring of support from fans and well-wishers.
“I’m currently in the recovery process and getting better every passing day. I’m deeply grateful for all the kind wishes and support I’ve received — it truly means a lot. Thank you for keeping me in your thoughts,” Iyer wrote on social media, reassuring fans of steady progress in his rehabilitation.
The injury occurred in the 34th over of the match when Iyer attempted a diving catch to dismiss Alex Carey. He landed awkwardly on his right side and appeared to be in severe pain before being stretchered off the field. What was initially believed to be a minor impact injury was later diagnosed as a more serious condition, prompting immediate hospitalization and a period of rest and recovery.
