The annual ‘Voluntary Blood Donation Drive for Christmas,’ organised by the Association for Voluntary Blood Donation (AVBD) in collaboration with Mizoram State AIDS Control Society (MSACS) and local blood banks, was inaugurated at Aizawl Civil Hospital’s Blood Bank on Tuesday.

The event, officiated by senior medical superintendent Dr. ST Lalruatfela, saw 164 donors, including 35 women from student and church youth associations, contributing blood on the first day.

AVBD leaders stated that the drive, initiated in 2019, aims to maintain sufficient blood supplies in state blood banks during the Christmas and New Year festivities. The campaign will continue until the end of December.

Since its inception, the drive has collected 7,799 units of blood, contributing to Mizoram achieving nearly 100% voluntary blood donation, AVBD leaders said.
