The newly launched KSR Bengaluru–Ernakulam Vande Bharat Express has become the first semi-high-speed train to connect Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka, marking a major milestone in southern India’s rail connectivity.
The eight-coach train, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will operate six days a week, with Wednesday as a maintenance day. The service covers key cities including Bengaluru, Salem, Erode, Coimbatore, Palakkad, Thrissur, and Ernakulam, significantly reducing travel time between the three states.
According to Southern Railway, the Vande Bharat Express will cut travel time from over 11 hours to about 8 hours and 40 minutes, offering faster and more comfortable travel for business passengers, tourists, and daily commuters.
Equipped with modern amenities such as automatic doors, Wi-Fi, GPS-based infotainment, bio-vacuum toilets, and ergonomic seating, the train promises a premium travel experience on one of South India’s busiest routes.
Officials said the service will boost regional connectivity and promote economic and tourism opportunities across the southern corridor.
