At least nine people have been killed and several others injured following a powerful explosion outside Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station on Monday evening, November 10, officials said.
The blast, which occurred near a parked vehicle, sparked panic in the area and led to a massive security and rescue operation. Fire and police teams rushed to the spot, while forensic and bomb-disposal units are investigating the cause of the explosion.
The injured have been taken to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital, where emergency teams are attending to multiple critical cases.
Authorities have placed the national capital on high alert, with additional forces deployed at key installations and crowded public areas. Traffic diversions have been enforced around Red Fort, Daryaganj, and Chandni Chowk as a precaution.
A senior police official said, “We are determining the source of the explosion and whether any explosive device was involved.”
While the exact cause of the blast remains under investigation, officials are not ruling out any possibility at this stage. An official statement from the Delhi Police and Ministry of Home Affairs is expected soon.
