In a major setback for former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, the Karnataka High Court on Wednesday declined to quash the case registered against him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The petition was filed by Yediyurappa seeking to dismiss the criminal proceedings initiated on allegations of sexual assault involving a minor. The court, however, refused to interfere with the ongoing investigation, allowing the legal process to continue.
While the High Court partially set aside the order of the special court that had taken cognizance of the case, it made it clear that the investigation and prosecution would proceed as per law.
The case stems from a complaint filed earlier this year, accusing the veteran BJP leader of sexually harassing a 17-year-old girl. Yediyurappa has denied all allegations, calling them politically motivated.
The court’s decision is seen as a legal setback for the former Chief Minister, who remains a key figure in Karnataka politics.
