The counting of votes for Bihar’s two-phase assembly elections is underway, and the Buxar constituency is witnessing a dramatic political shift. BJP’s Anand Mishra has overtaken Congress veteran Munna Tiwari, who had won the seat in both the 2015 and 2020 elections, and is now leading in the 2025 race, signaling a potential upset in this historically Congress-dominated region.
Historically, Buxar has been a Congress stronghold, with Tiwari securing victories by margins of 10,181 votes in 2015 and 3,892 votes in 2020. However, after six rounds of counting this year, Mishra is leading by over 12,000 votes, while Tiwari has secured 12,262 votes. The early trends suggest that BJP is making significant inroads into the constituency, challenging Congress’s long-standing influence.
A former IPS officer, Anand Mishra joined the BJP after a stint with Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party and has been actively engaging with voters across Buxar. His growing popularity and strong campaign have resonated with the electorate, highlighting BJP’s robust push in the region and signaling a possible shift in the political landscape of this once-safe Congress seat.
