Landslide strikes stone quarry in UP's Sonbhadra, several workers feared trapped

A major accident was reported at a stone mining site in Uttar Pradesh’s Sonbhadra district on Saturday, November 15, when a section of a hill suddenly collapsed. The landslide caused a large volume of debris to crash into the quarry, sparking fears that several labourers working inside may have been buried under the rubble.

Initial reports suggest that multiple workers — including a compressor operator — are suspected to be trapped beneath the fallen stone mass. The incident occurred in the Billi area under the Obra police station limits, a region where stone mining activities are carried out frequently.

Following the collapse, local authorities, including the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) and police teams, reached the site without delay. Rescue operations were launched promptly, with efforts underway to locate the missing workers and remove the heavy debris to prevent further casualties.
