Three Maoists, including key militia commander Madvi Deva, were killed in a Sukma encounter with security forces, marking a major blow to Maoist insurgency in Bastar.

In a significant development against Maoist insurgency, three Naxals, including a key militia commander, were killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district on Sunday, November 17. The trio, carrying a combined bounty of Rs 15 lakh, had weapons and ammunition recovered from the site, including a .303 rifle and BGL launchers.

The operation was launched early in the morning after security forces received credible information about Maoist presence in the forested and hilly terrain of the region. “Intermittent firing took place during the search operation, and so far, three Maoist cadres have been neutralised,” said Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavan.

The deceased Naxals include Madvi Deva, a Janmilitia Commander, sniper specialist, and Konta Area Committee member; Podium Gangi, Konta Area Committee CNM Commander; and Sodi Gangi, Area Committee member of Kistaram. Two of the three were women, and each had a reward of Rs 5 lakh on their head.
