The United States has approved a $93 million weapons sale to India, paving the way for New Delhi to receive a new batch of Javelin anti-tank missiles and Excalibur precision-guided artillery rounds. The package comprises 100 FGM-148 Javelin missiles, 25 lightweight command launch units, and 216 Excalibur artillery rounds. The Defence Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has formally notified Congress of the proposed transfer.
The DSCA statement outlined that India’s request also includes lifecycle support, security inspections, operator training, refurbishing services for the launch units, and other related elements required for full operational capability. These measures are intended to ensure the seamless integration of the weapons into India’s armed forces.
According to the agency, the proposed sale is expected to strengthen the US-India strategic partnership and enhance India’s ability to counter both current and emerging threats. The statement emphasized that the transfer would bolster India’s homeland defense, deter regional threats, and that the country would have no difficulty absorbing these articles and services into its military operations.
