Delhi schools ordered to halt outdoor activities due to air pollution after Supreme Court directive.

Amid rising pollution levels and growing public concern, both the Supreme Court and the Delhi High Court have focused on the impact of toxic air on school children, highlighting the vulnerability of the youngest residents of the capital. Experts have welcomed the judicial attention, calling it a necessary step to protect children’s health.

On Thursday, the Delhi High Court made a particularly strong observation while hearing a plea filed by minor students. The court questioned the continued scheduling of outdoor sports during the city’s most polluted months, emphasizing the risks to children.

Justice Sachin Datta remarked that children “should not take part in outdoor sports” between November and January and criticized authorities for failing to safeguard their health. He stressed the need to revise the sports calendar to ensure that outdoor activities do not coincide with periods of hazardous air quality.
