Ahmedabad has been officially confirmed as the host city for the 2030 Centenary Commonwealth Games, marking India’s return to staging a major global sporting event after the 2010 Delhi Games. The decision was approved by delegates from 74 Commonwealth nations and territories during the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly in Glasgow, where India’s bid highlighted Ahmedabad’s blend of modern infrastructure, cultural vibrancy, and readiness to deliver a landmark edition of the Games.

The announcement was followed by a vibrant cultural celebration, as the General Assembly Hall came alive with a performance featuring twenty Garba dancers and thirty Indian dhol drummers. Performed by members of Glasgow’s Indian community and artists from across the Commonwealth, the routine showcased Gujarat’s heritage and offered an energetic preview of the cultural richness awaiting athletes and spectators in 2030.

Commonwealth Sport President Dr. Donald Rukare hailed Ahmedabad’s confirmation as the beginning of a promising new era for Commonwealth Sport. Emphasizing India’s scale, ambition, youthful energy, and passion for sport, he expressed confidence in the Games’ future, noting strong interest from various nations for hosting opportunities beyond 2034. With Glasgow 2026 paving the way, he affirmed that the Commonwealth Games enter their next century in a position of strength.
