US President Donald Trump

US President Donald Trump on Friday, November 28, announced a sweeping overhaul of US migration policy, stating that his administration plans to permanently halt immigration from what he described as “Third World countries.” He said the move is part of a broader effort to rebuild domestic systems, curb unauthorised migration, and increase scrutiny of foreign nationals entering the United States.

The announcement followed a serious incident near the White House in which two National Guard soldiers were shot by an Afghan national, one of whom later died. In response, the administration said it would reassess the permanent residency status of immigrants from 19 countries, including Afghanistan, as part of a wider security review.

Trump, in a Truth Social post, said he intends to pause migration, reverse what he called “illegal admissions” under the previous administration, and remove individuals who he believes do not contribute positively to the nation. He also declared plans to end federal benefits for noncitizens, denaturalise migrants who “undermine domestic tranquillity,” and deport those considered a public charge, security threat, or incompatible with what he termed Western civilisation.
