The Winter Session of Parliament will begin on December 1 and will continue till December 19.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday took a sharp dig at the Opposition as he addressed the media ahead of the Parliament’s Winter Session, urging parties to focus on “delivery, not drama.” He said the nation expects constructive debate and meaningful legislative work, not disruptions or theatrics inside the House.

Modi remarked that some political parties were struggling to “digest defeat,” a comment seen as a veiled reference to recent electoral setbacks faced by sections of the Opposition. He stressed that Parliament should be a forum for serious discussion and decision-making, adding that responsible conduct was essential for the functioning of democracy.

“Whoever wants to do drama can do it. There should be delivery here and not drama…the emphasis should be on policy, not slogans. The focus should be on ‘neeti’ (policy), not ‘nara’ (slogans). The game the opposition has been playing for the past 10 years is no longer acceptable to the people. They should change their strategy. I am ready to give them some tips. The winter session should not become a battlefield for frustration caused by defeat, or an arena for arrogance after victory,” Modi said.

He added, “This session should focus on what this Parliament thinks about the country, what it wants to do for the country. The focus should be on these issues. The opposition should also fulfill its responsibility. They should raise such issues, strong issues. They should overcome the disappointment of defeat. And unfortunately, there are some parties that are unable to digest the defeat.”

The Prime Minister also highlighted what he described as the enduring strength of India’s democratic spirit, saying high voter participation in recent elections demonstrated public faith in the system. He expressed confidence that the upcoming session would reflect this democratic energy.

With key legislative business lined up for the Winter Session, Modi appealed to all lawmakers to prioritise governance and national interest, asserting that Parliament must deliver outcomes that positively impact citizens.
