Imran Khan’s supporters will hold a major protest today, demanding the Shehbaz Sharif government provide clarity on the PTI chief’s condition amid assassination rumours inside Adiala Jail.

Rawalpindi authorities have imposed Section 144 across the city as it braces for a large protest announced by supporters of jailed former Pakistan PM Imran Khan. The order, issued by Deputy Commissioner Dr Hassan Waqar Cheema, bans all public gatherings, rallies, sit-ins, processions and demonstrations from December 1 to December 3. It also prohibits the use of loudspeakers, pillion riding on motorcycles, carrying or displaying weapons, and any attempt to remove police barricades. Officials said the ban was necessary after intelligence reports warned of a potential threat of violent mobilisation near sensitive installations and public spaces.

The protest call comes amid growing concern among Khan’s supporters and family members over the former PM’s well-being. They claim they have been repeatedly denied permission to meet him in prison, fuelling rumours and anxiety. Supporters insist that the planned protest is aimed at demanding transparency about his condition and ensuring that legal rights, including access for lawyers and family, are respected.

Security has been tightened across Rawalpindi, with roads leading to sensitive areas placed under watch and additional personnel deployed. Authorities have warned that any violation of the order will result in immediate legal action. With Section 144 in effect, the next two days are expected to be tense as officials prepare for possible attempts by supporters to defy the restrictions. The situation remains fluid, with political observers noting that how the government manages the protests could have significant implications for public sentiment and political stability in the region.
