Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has decided not to register for the IPL 2026 player auction, effectively bringing his 13-season stint in the tournament to an end. The 37-year-old confirmed the decision through a social media post, calling it “a big call” and thanking franchises, teammates and fans for their support throughout his IPL career.
Maxwell, who represented Punjab Kings last season, endured a difficult run in 2025, scoring only 48 runs in six innings before a finger injury forced him out of the tournament. The franchise subsequently released him ahead of the upcoming auction.
With the auction scheduled for December 16 in Abu Dhabi, Maxwell’s absence will prompt franchises to rethink their overseas-player strategies. Over 141 IPL matches, the Australian star accumulated 2,819 runs at a strike rate of more than 155 and was known for his explosive batting and handy off-spin, turning out for teams including Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings.
His withdrawal marks the end of an era for one of the IPL’s most dynamic performers as the league heads into a new season of rebuilding.
