Vaibhav Suryavanshi slammed his maiden century in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, India's premier domestic T20 tournament, for Bihar, and his third overall as he handed a pasting to Maharashtra bowlers in Kolkata.

14-year-old Bihar sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi scripted history on Tuesday, December 2, by smashing his maiden century in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for Bihar against Maharashtra. The southpaw reached his half-century off just 34 balls and completed his century in 24 more, marking his third T20 hundred overall and his first in India’s premier domestic T20 tournament.

Suryavanshi, who had earlier struggled with scores of 5, 13, and 14 in the competition, dominated a Maharashtra bowling attack that included Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Vicky Ostwal, Arshin Kulkarni, and Jalaj Saxena. At just 14 years and 250 days old, he became the youngest player to score a century in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the first teenager worldwide to record three T20 hundreds. His previous centuries came in the IPL for Rajasthan Royals and for India A during the Asia Cup Rising Stars against the UAE.

During his innings, Suryavanshi hit seven fours and seven sixes to power Bihar to 176, with only a late flourish from Ayush Loharuka contributing further. Despite his heroics, Bihar fell short as Maharashtra chased down the target in the final over, led by Prithvi Shaw’s 66 off 30 balls. Bihar has now lost all four matches in Elite Group B, leaving their knockout hopes in jeopardy.
