Actor Prakash Raj appeared before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Wednesday, November 12, in connection with the ongoing probe into the alleged promotion of online betting apps. The actor’s statement was recorded at the CID office as part of the investigation into the involvement of celebrities in promoting such platforms.
After leaving the CID office, Prakash Raj told the media that he had promoted an app in 2016, believing it to be a gaming app. Upon realizing it was a betting platform, he immediately stopped the promotion. He also noted that betting was officially banned in 2017. “Betting apps are wrong. They are destroying the lives of many youngsters. Whether we do the ads knowingly or unknowingly, it’s wrong. I am sorry for that,” he said.
Actor Vijay Deverakonda had appeared before the SIT on Tuesday, where officials recorded details about his remuneration and commissions from betting apps. The SIT, formed by the Telangana government in March, is investigating multiple cases involving online betting platforms. The questioning comes after a joint operation across six locations in Punjab, Gujarat, and Rajasthan, which led to the arrest of eight illegal betting organisers.
