Bollywood actor Salman Khan received a fresh death threat through a message sent to the WhatsApp number of the Mumbai Police Traffic Department in Worli.
According to officials, the message was received around 6:30 a.m., in which an unidentified sender threatened to kill the actor and plant a bomb in his vehicle. “The message explicitly stated an intention to kill the actor and mentioned targeting his car with an explosive device,” a senior police officer confirmed. The threat was immediately escalated, and a formal case has been registered.
Salman Khan has been on the radar of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s network, with previous threats linked to the 1998 Blackbuck poaching case. The actor has received multiple warnings over the past year, some of which were routed through the Mumbai police.
In a serious escalation in April last year, shots were fired outside Khan’s residence in Bandra. Following the attack, Lawrence Bishnoi’s brother, Anmol Bishnoi, claimed responsibility. Lawrence Bishnoi remains in custody at a prison in Gujarat.
Mumbai police have since arrested over a dozen members associated with the Bishnoi gang and have invoked the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) to strengthen their case.
In another incident last November, a man from Rajasthan was arrested in Karnataka’s Hubballi after impersonating Anmol Bishnoi and contacting the police helpline. The man reportedly issued an ultimatum to Khan: either publicly apologize at a temple or pay ₹5 crore to avoid being targeted.
Authorities are currently investigating the latest threat, and security around the actor has been increased as a precaution.
