Union minister and BJP leader Ashwini Vaishnaw

Union Minister and BJP leader Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the recently unveiled next-generation GST reforms have been in the works for about one-and-a-half years and are not linked to any external factors. Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters, he emphasized that the reforms are part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to “reform, perform, and transform” the country.

Responding to a query on whether the reforms were connected to US tariffs on Indian goods, Vaishnaw clarified that preparations had begun much before the US elections. He added that the entire process was guided by the Prime Minister and aimed purely at strengthening India’s economic framework, dismissing suggestions of external influence.

Highlighting the progress under GST since its rollout in 2017, Vaishnaw recalled how goods-laden trucks once faced long queues at state borders for clearances. Today, he said, technology-driven measures like e-way bills ensure that approvals are generated within seconds, making the system more seamless and efficient.
