Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said a judicial commission will be formed to probe the death of Zubeen Garg

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced the formation of a judicial commission, headed by Gauhati High Court Justice Soumitra Saikia, to oversee the investigation into the death of celebrated singer Zubeen Garg. The decision aims to ensure a thorough, impartial, and transparent inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Garg’s untimely demise.

Garg, a prominent cultural icon in Assam and the Northeast, passed away under mysterious circumstances in Singapore, prompting widespread shock and grief among fans and the general public. The establishment of the judicial commission reflects the state government’s commitment to justice and accountability in this high-profile case.

The Assam Police Special Investigation Team (SIT) has already taken significant steps in the investigation. Two members of Garg’s band have been sent to 14 days of police custody, allowing authorities to interrogate them regarding their possible involvement in the events leading to his death.

Authorities have also filed murder charges and are scrutinizing possible financial and administrative irregularities related to the festival where Garg had performed. The SIT continues to examine every lead, including the singer’s schedule, travel details, and professional contacts.

The Chief Minister has urged the public and Garg’s fans to come forward with any relevant information that could aid the investigation. The government has emphasized that transparency, accountability, and due process are central to the inquiry.

The case has captured national attention, given Garg’s stature as a cultural icon. State authorities are also coordinating with international agencies, including Singaporean authorities, to gather forensic and legal evidence.

This development marks a crucial phase in the investigation, as the judicial commission and the SIT work together to provide clarity on the singer’s death while addressing widespread public concern.
