The Assam government announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 5 lakh to the families of each of the 26 victims of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. CM Himanta Biswa Sarma called the financial aid a “token of solidarity” with the grieving families.
“As a mark of solidarity towards the victims of the Pahalgam terrorist attack, the Government of Assam will extend an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the families of the deceased. Massacres and violence were once a part of Assam’s history, and our people stand shoulder to shoulder with the families,” the CM said.
The CM also stated that Assam will take action against persons who defend the Pahalgam terror attack.
“I have instructed the Assam Police to take the strictest possible action against anyone who is supporting Pakistan in the wake of the Pahalgam terrorist attack. Accordingly, Hon’ble MLA Aminul Islam has been arrested today on charges of sedition. I repeat, nobody will be spared,” Sarma added.
AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam was arrested on April 24 from his residence in Dhing for making anti-India statements regarding the Pahalgam attack.
“Let it be made absolutely clear: those who seek to justify, downplay, or normalize the brutal killing of innocent civilians are not exercising freedom of expression – they are opposing the very spirit and conscience of India,” he added.
