Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma officially launched the Orunodoi 3.0 scheme, aimed at providing direct financial support to women-headed households across the state. Under the updated scheme, eligible beneficiaries will receive Rs 1,250 per month, disbursed directly to their bank accounts, with the total monthly outlay expected to exceed Rs 410 crore.
The scheme has been expanded to include an additional 6 lakh families, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to nearly 40 lakh. While most districts began receiving benefits in October, the rollout in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) is expected to take about another month. To compensate for a delay in the September rollout, the Chief Minister announced that beneficiaries will receive a special gift in February 2026 for the missed month. He also urged beneficiaries to ensure their bank accounts are active and KYC details updated.
Orunodoi 3.0 prioritizes vulnerable groups such as widows, transgender persons, individuals with disabilities, and unmarried women over 45. Beneficiaries must have an Aadhaar-seeded ration card under the NFSA to qualify. By targeting the female head of the household, the scheme seeks to promote gender equality and financial independence among women, reinforcing the state government’s commitment to empowering women across Assam.
