As Delhi’s air quality plunged further into the ‘severe’ category, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra called on the Centre and the BJP-led Delhi government to take urgent action. Having just returned from Wayanad and Bihar, she described the capital’s pollution as a “grey shroud” and an “awful situation,” urging immediate intervention. She said it was time for all political parties to set aside differences and work together to protect public health.
Highlighting the serious impact on citizens, Priyanka Gandhi said that children, senior citizens and people with respiratory illnesses are suffering the most due to the toxic air. She stressed that year after year, residents of Delhi are forced to inhale poisonous air without any lasting solution. She tagged Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav in her post on X, appealing to them to take swift and effective measures.
Delhi has been witnessing hazardous air conditions over the past few weeks. According to the Central Pollution Control Board, the city’s average Air Quality Index (AQI) across 39 monitoring stations stood at 303 (‘very poor’). However, several areas, including Wazirpur and Anand Vihar, recorded AQI levels in the ‘severe’ category, indicating extremely unhealthy air and raising alarm among environmental and health experts.
