The investigation into singer Zubeen Garg’s death has intensified with the arrest of two more individuals — fellow musician Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and singer Amritprabha Mahanta. Both were present with Garg in Singapore when he passed away on September 19 while swimming in the sea. Police said they had gathered sufficient evidence to warrant their arrest for further questioning.
These developments come a day after Garg’s manager, Siddharth Sharma, and event organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta — who had taken the singer to perform at the Northeast India Festival in Singapore — were also taken into custody. The two were charged under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including culpable homicide not amounting to murder, criminal conspiracy, and causing death by negligence.
Special DGP (CID) Munna Prasad Gupta confirmed that Sharma and Mahanta are currently in 14-day police custody. He further revealed that Section 103 of the BNS, which pertains to murder and carries the punishment of life imprisonment or death along with a fine, has been added to the FIR. With these arrests, a total of four people are now behind bars as the probe into Garg’s mysterious death deepens.
