The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have agreed to resolve the Asia Cup 2025 trophy controversy through mutual understanding, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed on Saturday.
Saikia revealed that the breakthrough came during an informal meeting in Dubai on the sidelines of the ICC board meeting, where PCB Chairman and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi was also present. “It was really good to start the process of negotiation. Both sides cordially participated. The ice has been broken, and we’re hopeful of a resolution soon,” Saikia told reporters.
Trophy Yet to Reach India
India, who won the 2025 Asia Cup in August, have not yet received the tournament trophy. The silverware remains at the ACC headquarters in Dubai, reportedly under Naqvi’s instructions not to be moved without his approval.
The issue drew attention after the Indian team reportedly declined to accept the trophy from Naqvi during the post-match presentation ceremony in Dubai, citing procedural differences.
Discussions Underway
Although the matter was not formally on the agenda of the ICC’s main meeting, officials from both boards are said to have held “cordial discussions” on the sidelines. According to reports, the ICC may form a mediation panel to facilitate a resolution if required.
Both boards have expressed confidence that the standoff will be settled soon, emphasizing the importance of maintaining good sporting relations.
Background
India defeated Pakistan in the final of the 2025 Asia Cup held in Dubai, clinching the title in a closely contested match. However, the trophy controversy has since overshadowed the victory, prompting intervention from senior administrators on both sides.
