RCB announce Rs 10 lakh compensation for families of deceased, injured to receive support

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have announced a financial aid package of Rs 10 lakh each for the families of the 11 individuals who lost their lives during the chaotic victory celebrations held on June 4 outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The tragic incident occurred following RCB’s historic maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) title win.

Massive crowds had gathered to celebrate the franchise’s triumph and catch a glimpse of star players like Virat Kohli. However, the overwhelming turnout led to a stampede-like situation, resulting in 11 fatalities and injuring at least 50 others. Those injured are currently receiving treatment in various hospitals across Bengaluru.

In an official statement shared on social media, RCB expressed deep sorrow over the incident. “The unfortunate incident in Bengaluru yesterday has caused a lot of anguish and pain to the RCB family. As a mark of respect and a gesture of solidarity, RCB has announced a financial support of INR 10 lakh to each of the eleven families of the deceased,” the statement read.

The franchise also revealed the creation of a dedicated fund named ‘RCB Cares’, aimed at supporting fans who were injured during the tragedy. “Our fans will always remain at the heart of everything that we do. We remain united in grief,” the statement added.

The RCB had secured their first-ever IPL title by defeating Punjab Kings in the final held in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, sparking widespread celebrations across Bengaluru.

Meanwhile, the Karnataka High Court has taken suo motu cognisance of the incident and on Thursday issued a notice to the state government, demanding a detailed status report on the stampede and related safety measures.
