Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, September 13, called on all groups in Manipur to shun violence and embrace peace for the sake of future generations. This marks his first visit to the state since the 2023 ethnic clashes that claimed over 200 lives and displaced thousands.

Addressing a public gathering in Churachandpur, one of the worst-hit districts during the violence, Modi said, “There is ‘Mani’ in the name of Manipur. It is that ‘Mani’ which will make the entire Northeast shine in the future.” He urged all groups to secure their children’s future by choosing peace, adding that the Government of India is committed to taking Manipur forward on the path of development.

During his visit, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for development projects worth around Rs 7,000 crore in Churachandpur. He also announced initiatives to boost road, rail, and air connectivity in the state, aiming to accelerate growth and improve infrastructure.
