Assam's Chirang court achieves zero pendency of cases

The Chief Judicial Magistrate court in Assam’s Chirang district has achieved a remarkable milestone, reporting zero pending cases as all matters were resolved by the conclusion of the previous year.

This accomplishment is particularly noteworthy in a nation where more than five crore cases remain unresolved. This success is underscored by data from the National Judicial Data Grid (NJDG), which indicates that over 4.5 crore cases are pending in district and subordinate courts throughout the country.

This development signifies a substantial shift away from the notorious “tarikh pe tarikh” phenomenon, which has historically hindered the Indian judicial system with continuous adjournments and procedural delays.

Furthermore, the conviction rate in Assam from January to November 2024 is recorded at 22.68 percent, whereas the conviction rate in Chirang District for the entire year of 2024 is 23.29 percent. It is noteworthy that the conviction rate in Chirang District for the month of December 2024 reaches 26.89 percent.

This achievement serves as a reflection of the commitment and effectiveness of the judicial system in Chirang, establishing a standard for other courts to aspire to. The joint efforts of all parties involved have been instrumental in reaching this significant milestone, underscoring the value of collaboration and dedication to providing prompt justice to the community.
