The Election Commission said objections and claims filed after September 30, the deadline for final list, will be considered

The Election Commission informed the Supreme Court on Monday, September 1, that claims and objections related to the ongoing revision of Bihar’s voter rolls would be accepted even beyond the September 30 deadline. The assurance came during the hearing of petitions filed by political leaders from the state, who had sought an extension of the earlier September 1 cut-off for submitting objections to the draft electoral rolls.

Taking note of the Commission’s assurance, the Supreme Court observed that the revision process would remain open until the final date for filing nominations in the elections. This effectively allows citizens and stakeholders additional time to raise concerns or corrections regarding the draft voter list without being constrained by the earlier deadline.

In its order, the apex court also directed the deployment of paralegal volunteers from the legal services authority. These volunteers will assist citizens in filing claims and objections online, ensuring that the process is accessible and inclusive, particularly for those who may face difficulties in navigating the digital system.
