India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday, September 11, issued a strong advisory urging Indian nationals not to join the Russian army, warning that doing so is “a course fraught with danger.” The statement follows reports that several Indians who had traveled to Moscow were allegedly forced into combat roles in Ukraine.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the government has repeatedly cautioned citizens over the past year about the risks involved in such actions. He emphasized that New Delhi has raised the issue with Russian authorities in both Delhi and Moscow, calling for an end to the recruitment of Indian nationals.
Jaiswal added that India is seeking the release of those already recruited and remains in contact with the families of the affected citizens. The advisory is the latest in a series of warnings aimed at preventing Indians from being drawn into the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.
