The Ministry of External Affairs firmly rejected China's latest attempt to rename several locations in Arunachal Pradesh

India has strongly rejected China’s latest attempt to rename several locations in Arunachal Pradesh, reaffirming that the state is an integral part of the country. This response follows the Chinese Ministry of Civil Affairs’ release of new names for 27 locations in Arunachal Pradesh on May 11–12, in yet another effort to assert its territorial claims.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) criticised the move as a continuation of China’s repeated efforts to lay claim to Indian territory.

In a strongly worded statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said, “We have noticed that China has persisted with its vain and preposterous attempts to name places in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh.”

The MEA added, “Consistent with our principled position, we reject such attempts categorically. Creative naming will not alter the undeniable reality that Arunachal Pradesh was, is, and will always remain an integral and inalienable part of India.”

This incident follows a similar development in April 2024, when China issued a fourth list, renaming 30 places along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Arunachal Pradesh. India has consistently dismissed such actions, maintaining that assigning invented names does not alter the reality on the ground.
