The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned former Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan in connection with an investigation into an online betting app case. Officials said the summons were issued after it was found that Dhawan had promoted the betting platform 1x on social media.
As part of the probe, the ED will record Dhawan’s statement under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The 39-year-old is understood to have been associated with the app through certain endorsements, and investigators are seeking clarity on the nature of his links with the platform.
The agency is currently investigating multiple cases involving illegal betting apps, including 1xBet, which are suspected of duping people of crores of rupees and evading significant amounts in taxes. Dhawan’s questioning forms part of this broader crackdown on online betting networks.
