With the drastic fall in Covid-19 infections and a few states opening their gates for tourists, people from the plains are thronging hill stations like Manali in Himachal Pradesh. Factors like scorching heat and reduced hotel costs have also led to the influx of tourists in hill stations.

Manali saw a huge spur in tourist footfall in the last few days and a picture of a massive crowd walking down the mall road has gone viral on the internet. This picture has left netizens angry and fearful of the Covid-19 third wave in the country.

This comes after the Himachal Pradesh government relaxed the Covid-19 restrictions in the State last month, resulting in the huge footfall of tourists in places like Shimla, Kullu-Manali and Dharamshala. The hotel occupancy has also shot up in the past few weeks.

The removal of the condition of exhibiting negative RT-PCR reports and Covid E-pass for entry in Himachal Pradesh has added to the influx of tourists into the State.

The photo of the crowded Manali street started doing rounds on the internet on the weekend and many have expressed their disappointment regarding the flouting of social distancing norms and safety.

One user said, "Pehle oxygen nahi mil raha thi, Ab kehte Manali me hotel nahi mil rahe (Earlier, we were not getting oxygen, now, beds are running out of Manali hotels."
