• Kanhaiya Kumar, Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani To Join Congress In October: Report

    Former student leader, Kanhaiya Kumar will join the Congress party likely through an event on October 2, as per reports. Along with Kumar, independent Gujarat MLA, Jignesh Mevani will also join the party.

    Kumar who was the President of the Jawaharlal Nehru University's students' union and currently with CPI is expected to bring a few other left-wing leaders with him when he joins the party.

    Meanwhile, Mevani, a Dalit leader who represents the Vadgam constituency of Gujarat could be made the Working President of the party's State unit, according to reports.

    According to reports, Kumar has already met party top leaders - Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra twice in the last two weeks to discuss his future role in the party.

    It may be mentioned, Kumar fought the 2019 Lok Sabha election from his hometown, Begusarai in Bihar but lost to BJP's Giriraj Singh.

    There are also talks of a Jammu-based lawyer who fought for justice in a horrific rape case involving a minor joining the part with Kumar and Mevani.
