• Jai Bhim: Actor Suriya Gets Police Security Amid Threats, Legal Notice, Thanks Fans For Support

A reward of Rs 1 lakh was announced by PMK leader Palanisamy to anyone who who attacks Suriya

High-level security has been deployed outside the house of actor Suriya in Chennai after reports of threats against the Jai Bhim actor. Security was provided following the announcement by Pattali Makkali Katchi (PMK) leader Palanisamy of a reward of Rs 1 lakh to anyone who attacks the actor.

A legal notice was also served by a caste group called Vanniyar Sangam which claimed that the movie has tarnished the community. They said that in a scene a man from the caste was seen torturing a tribal man which has maligned the image of the group.

The group has demanded Rs 5 crore for "denigrating the community." They have also demanded the removal of all references to themselves and have warned the actor and director of civil and criminal proceedings.

Vanniyars - a Most Backward Community in Tamil Nadu - are dominant in the State's northern districts.

The scenes that have triggered the uproar include one shot that features a communal symbol. This has since been replaced by the image of a deity, so as to not hurt religious sentiments.

Meanwhile, the actor took to social media to thank his fans for their unparallel support. He tweeted, "Dear all, this love for Jai Bhim is overwhelming. I've never witnessed this before! Can't express in words how thankful I am for the trust and reassurance you all have given us. Heartfelt thanks for standing by us."

Suriya who also produced the film plays the character of Justice Chandru inspired by the real life of human rights activist and former Madras High Court judge Justice Chandru, who fought against injustices faced by the oppressed sections of the society.

The Tamil-Language film is available on Amazon Prime.
