In a massive development, United States President Joe Biden will temporarily transfer power briefly to Vice President Kamala Harris on Friday as he would be going under anaesthesia for a routine colonoscopy at Walter Reed Medical Center. This was informed by White House press secretary Jen Psaki.
"The Vice President will work from her office in the West Wing during this time," Psaki said.
Following this, Harris will be making history by becoming the first woman with presidential power. During the short time, she will serve as the acting president.
Biden, the oldest person to take office as the US president, will turn 79 on Saturday.
Harris is the first female vice president and the highest-ranking female official in US history, as well as the first African American and first Asian American vice president.
It may be noted, presidential power has been transferred to the Vice President before when President George W Bush had colonoscopies in 2002 and 2007 respectively.
