After Sushmita Dev, Babul Supriyo and Leander Paes, speculations are on the rise that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Varun Gandhi might jump ship to Trinamool Congress (TMC).
Rumours say that Varun might meet TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee during her New Delhi visit that is scheduled for next week.
Though there has been no official confirmation about Maneka Gandhi's son joining the TMC, according to a senior party leader, the West Bengal Chief Minister's visit to the national capital is going to be "very significant" and might have some "surprises" as well.
Without making any direct comment on the matter, a senior TMC leader said that the leaders who are angry with BJP but have no way to go to Congress are contacting Trinamool. "At the moment, it is clear that Mamata and Trinamool can play the biggest role in stopping Narendra Modi," he said.
It may be mentioned, recently BJP had dropped Varun and his mother from the party's national working committee, and the junior Gandhi is reportedly looking for a political platform.
Varun was also showing support for the farmers' agitation and condemned the killing of farmer's in the Lakhimpur-Kheri incident, indicating that his ties with the party has turned sour.
On her New Delhi visit, Mamata is expected to meet the leaders of the opposition parties, including Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi.
