Renowned Assamese poet Sananta Tanty passed away on Thursday morning in New Delhi. He was under treatment at Apollo Hospital in the national capital.
The 69-year-old singer was suffering from a prolonged illness for a long and was undergoing treatment in Delhi.
In 2018, Tanty was awarded with the Sahitya Akademi.
Born to an Oria family in Kalinagar Tea Estate, Tanty became an eminent Indian Assamese poet whose contribution to Assamese literature is very much prominent.
Tanty has received numerous awards and distinctions for his work. He had also won the 2018 Sahitya Akademi Award for “Kailoir Dinto Amar Hobo” (Tomorrow Will be Ours), a collection of his poems.
