• General Bipin Rawat's Funeral Rites To Be Held Today In Delhi

    India's first Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat's funeral, who lost his life in a tragic air accident this week, will be held on Friday.

    The general public can pay tribute to the outstanding commander at their Kamaraj Marg residence from 11 am to 12:30 pm, while the military personnel can pay respects between 12:30 pm-1.30 pm. 

    General Rawat, his wife Madhulika and 11 other defence personnel died after the Mi-17 chopper they were on board crashed near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu on December 8.

    The funeral procession of General Rawat from his residence to the Brar Square crematorium is scheduled to begin around 2 pm.

    The actual funeral of late General Rawat has been scheduled for 4 pm, while the funeral of Brigadier LS Lidder, whose body was also identified as one of the other casualties of the air accident, would be held at 9 am.

    Although deaths of 13 people in the helicopter crash were confirmed by the Indian Air Force (IAF), only three bodies have been identified so far- those of Gen Rawat, his wife Madhulika Rawat, and Brigadier Lidder.  The bodies of others will be kept at the Army Base Hospital till identified. 

    Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday paid his last respect to CDS Bipin Rawat at Palam airbase and others who lost their lives in the chopper crash. 

    Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also paid his tribute on Thursday and said, “The last rites of CDS General Bipin Rawat will be performed with full military honours. The last rites of other military personnel will be performed with appropriate military honour.”
