• London Returnee Tests Positive For Covid At Guwahati Airport, Sample Sent For Genome Sequencing

    Amid the scare of the deadly Covid-19 variant Omicron, a woman who returned from London has tested positive for Covid-19 at Borjhar Airport in Guwahati on Wednesday.

    Her samples have been sent to Kolkata for genome sequencing to ascertain the specific strain.

    The woman is currently under treatment at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), as per reports.

    Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Thursday extended the ban on international commercial passenger flights by one month till January 31, 2022. However, the restriction will not be applicable to all-cargo operations and flights.

    Regular international flights were supposed to start from December 15, 2021, but in view of the Omicron variant of COVID-19, the decision to ban international commercial passenger flights was taken.
