In an unfortunate incident, a two-year-old girl died after being hit by bullets fired in the air by a forest official to disperse a herd of wild elephants in the Bondapara area of Boko in Assam on Friday afternoon.
As per reports, the toddler's mother is severely injured on the neck and is undergoing treatment at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital. She is said to be in a critical condition.
The daughter after being hit by bullets was immediately rushed to the Boko hospital where doctors declared her brought dead. The mother has been identified as Malobika Daimary.
This shocking incident has created an outrage among the locals and an angry mob was also seen protesting against the forest team and blocking the National Highway 17 for an hour in the evening.
Later, a police team from Boko police station reached the spot to control the situation.
Meanwhile, no official statement has been released from the forest department in respect to the incident.
