Spanish boxer Miriam Gutiérrez was left with a face badly disfigured after receiving 236 punches by unified featherweight world champion Amanda Serrano at the Amalie Arena in Florida.
Gutiérrez received the blows from Serrano for a straight 20 minutes. In the first round alone, Serrano landed 37 punches on Gutierrez. The Puerto Rican was fighting to ensure her shot at a fight against Katie Taylor in what could be the biggest fight in women’s boxing history and convincingly dispatched her Spanish opponent by winning almost every round.
After leaving her opponent with a severely swollen face, Serrano expressed her respect for Gutiérrez's grit.
She said, "I want to thank my dance partner Miriam Gutiérrez. She didn’t come to lay down."
