• IPS Officer Violet Baruah Becomes Assam's First Female IGP

    IPS officer Violet Baruah on Monday was promoted as the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Assam.  With this, she became the first female IPS officer to be promoted to the rank of IGP in Assam. 

    Baruah became the first female Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Assam Police in 2019. She is also the first female DIG to be posted in the Bodoland Territorial Region after the post was created following the signing of the historic Bodo Accord 2020. 

    "Promoted to the rank of IGP. Feeling blessed to be the first lady IGP in the state of Assam," Baruah said in a tweet.

    An IPS officer of the 2005 batch of Assam-Meghalaya cadre, Baruah was conferred the President's Medal on the 2021 Republic Day for her distinguished service.

    Baruah has served the Assam Police department in various places. She is an alumnus of the prestigious Cotton College (now University). The IPS officer has also served as the Commandant of 9th APBn, Barhampur.
