Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Paban Singh Ghatowar met Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and other Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders at a dinner party in Duliajan on Monday, raising speculation of him joining the ruling party.
The dinner was organised at Duliajan's Jalani Club where the Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Rameswar Teli and Margherita BJP MLA Bhaskar Sharma were also present.
The photos of the event have fueled the old speculations of the leader joining the BJP with his son Pranjal Ghatowar. However, Ghatowar is tight-lipped about the matter.
Last year, there were high speculations of Pranjal joining the ruling party after he lost the Assam Assembly elections from Moran constituency to his BJP rival. Chakradhar Gogoi.
If Ghatowar joins the BJP, it will be a big blow to the Congress as many senior leaders including Mukul Sangma quit the party last year. Sangma joined the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress.
