The Northeast would become the driver of the country’s growth story: Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated 13 Projects worth around Rs 1,850 crores and laid the foundation stone of 9 projects worth around Rs 2950 crore in Imphal, Manipur.

"After 2014, I brought Delhi to Northeast's doorstep. After 2014, there is a major shift in how the Northeast is viewed. Today so many top Union Ministers hail from the Northeast. The Northeast would become the driver of the country’s growth story," Modi said in Manipal, kicking off the BJP’s campaign for coming Assembly elections in the State.

The Prime Minister also accused the previous governments in New Delhi of neglecting the Northeast.

He added, "The Northeast, which Netaji called the gateway to India's independence, is becoming the gateway to fulfilling the dreams of a new India. We are working to realize the possibilities in the Northeast. Today the youth of the country are taking inspiration from the players of Manipur."
The elections to the 60-member Manipur Legislative Assembly are expected to be held in March this year.

"From a ‘blockade state’ , Manipur has become a state promoting international trade. We also have to maintain stability in Manipur and take Manipur to new heights of development. Only the double engine government can do this work," Modi said.

The Prime Minister also traveled to Agartala, accompanied by Union Minister for Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia. Modi launched two key development initiatives and inaugurated the new integrated terminal building at the Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport.

Modi inaugurated the New Integrated Terminal Building at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala worth Rs 450 crore in the presence of Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and Union Civil Aviation Minister Scindia.
PM Modi also launched key initiatives such as the Mukhyamantri Tripura Gram Samriddhi Yojana and Project Mission 100 of Vidyajyoti Schools in Tripura.

"The double engine government led by Hon'ble PM Shri @narendramodi Ji has opened avenues of development for Tripura and the people of the state are showing their gratitude to the Hon'ble PM with their presence at Swami Vivekananda Maidan, Agartala," Deb tweeted sharing photos of the crowd.
"We're working to develop Tripura as the gateway to connectivity in the Northeast. Tripura is now becoming a trade corridor in the region. Several initiatives connected by rail/road have started transforming the region," Modi said.

He added, "From the principal of ‘don’t look east’ which dominated the corridors of power for decades, the NDA government is driven by the mantra of ‘Act East.’ Tripura is on its way to becoming the gateway of the Northeast. With unprecedented investment in Airways, waterways and railways, it will soon become the Trade Corridor of the country."
