The Union Health Ministry has come up with new filters on the CoWin platform which can be applied to exclude Prime Minister Narendra Modi's photo from the vaccine certificates that will be issued in the five poll-bound states.
This step comes after the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) came into effect on Saturday in the five states that will go for Assembly elections. The dates for the Assembly elections was announced on Saturday by the Election Commission of India (EC).
The poll panel addressed the media on Saturday and announced the dates for Assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Manipur. The elections will be held between February 10 and March 7 in seven phases while the counting of votes will take place on March 10.
It may be mentioned, the MCC for governments, candidates and political parties comes into effect immediately after the elections schedule is announced by the EC. The MCC stays in effect till the elections are completed.
In March 2021, the Health Ministry had taken a similar initiative during the polls held in Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Puducherry as suggested by the EC following complaints raised by some political parties.
Announcing the month-long election schedule, the EC has banned physical rallies and roadshows till January 15 due to Covid concerns.
Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra said the ban on rallies, roadshows, nukkad sabhas, padayatras and vehicle rallies will be reviewed on January 15.
