Assam on Tuesday became the first state in the country to lift all Covid-related curbs and restrictions.

All the curbs such as night curfew and restrictions of socio-religious gatherings, educational institutions were lifted from 6 am in the morning.

According to an order issued by Chief Secretary Jishnu Baruah, wearing masks and social distancing in public places, as well as the practice of using hand sanitisers, will continue to prevail until further orders.

Even though all the restrictions have been lifted, the State government has announced those with symptoms can still choose for voluntary testing at airports, railway stations, and hospitals.

With this, the state is limping towards normalcy that prevailed before the Covid-19 pandemic struck the country.

On Sunday, the positivity rate of the number of new Covid-19 cases in Assam fell by over 54%, according to the National Health Mission (NHM).

Meanwhile, 198 people tested positive for the infection on Monday pushing the tally to 7,23,693 cases.
